Fenton Township takes stand against synthetic drugs - ABC 12 – WJRT – Flint, MI

(06/11/12) - Fenton Township is stepping up efforts to fight the spread of synthetic drugs in their schools and neighborhoods.

Commonly known on the streets as K-2, Spice or Bath Salts, are legal and the use is becoming more wide spread in communities across Mid-Michigan.

17 year old Avery Carpenter admits he used synthetic marijuana or K-2. "It's bad for you, it makes you hallucinate and it's painful. You just trip out bad."

One group called "Community Parent" in Fenton Township is staying one step ahead to educate parents and kids. While it maybe too late for heroin, this time around they're doing what they can to get all synthetic drugs off store shelves.

"It seems like the influx of this new Spice and other synthetic drugs may be as bad or worse as opiates and the illegal drugs, said Township Clerk Bob Krug."

Scott Masi from the Brighton Recovery Center said there's no way to know the long term effects of synthetic drugs because manufacturers aren't regulated. "There's perfect storm out there for the use of this because of it's perceived legality." Read More...
