Legislation banning K2 or Spice, bath salts and other synthetic drugs is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Rick Snyder this week.

The battle against synthetic drugs, brought into the forefront by a dramatic increase of emergency room visits of patients, many of them teenagers exhibiting delusional and sometimes violent behavior, is expected to be one long fight against synthetic drugs.

Parents and their children need to be aware and vigilant against these drugs, according to doctors and public health officials at the Synthetic Drug Symposium at Livonia City Hall Tuesday night organized by Livonia Save Our Youth and the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance.

K2, described as synthetic cannabis, mimics marijuana and is sold under the brands Spice, Blaze, Black Mamba and Bob Marley. As potpourri, the presumption is that purchasers would not be smoking it, but that is a way for manufacturers to get around the law, officials say. Read More
